Chiropractic care per trimester

chiropractie per trimester

Each stage of pregnancy places different demands on your body. What you experience in the first trimester is often different from the third. Chiropractic care can provide support in each trimester as long as the treatment is tailored to your stage and situation. Below, you can read what chiropractic care may mean for you per trimester.

First trimester (0–12 weeks)

What happens in your body?

In the first trimester, there is often little to see from the outside, but a lot changes on the inside:

  • hormonal changes cause ligaments to become more lax
  • your body adapts to pregnancy
  • old back or pelvic complaints may return
  • fatigue and nausea can affect your posture

Precisely because the changes are subtle, complaints at this stage are sometimes underestimated.

What can chiropractic care do?

In the first trimester, the focus is often on:

  • supporting the pelvis and spine
  • preventing overload
  • guiding your body’s adjustment process

Many women start in this phase preventively, especially if they already had back or pelvic complaints before pregnancy.

Second trimester (13–27 weeks)

What changes now?

This trimester is often experienced as the most “stable” phase, but:

  • your belly grows visibly
  • your posture begins to change
  • your centre of gravity shifts
  • the pelvis becomes more mobile

Complaints in this stage often develop gradually.

What can chiropractic care do?

In the second trimester, chiropractic care mainly focuses on:

  • maintaining balance and freedom of movement
  • supporting a well-functioning pelvis
  • reducing back, hip and pelvic complaints
  • guiding posture changes

Treatments are gentle, comfortable and fully adapted to your growing bump.

Third trimester (28 weeks until delivery)

What is your body dealing with now?

In the third trimester, the strain clearly increases:

  • moving takes more energy
  • turning over in bed can be painful
  • back and pelvic complaints are more common
  • tension in the neck and shoulders increases

The body is preparing for labour.

What can chiropractic care do?

At this stage, the focus is on:

  • comfort and freedom of movement
  • supporting the pelvis
  • reducing tension in the back, pelvis and shoulders
  • helping the body function as well as possible in the lead-up to delivery

Chiropractic care in this trimester can also besafely applied, even right up to your due date.

Is the treatment adjusted per trimester?

Yes. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is not a standard treatment. The following are taken into account:

  • your stage of pregnancy
  • your symptoms and capacity
  • your comfort and posture

The techniques are gentle, controlled, and always tailored to your situation.

Do you need to have symptoms to start?

No. Chiropractic care can:

  • be used preventively
  • reduce symptoms
  • help prevent worsening

Many women actually benefit from not waiting until symptoms become severe.

Support in every stage

Each trimester brings different physical changes. Chiropractic care can offer support at every stage, as long as the treatment is tailored to your body and your pregnancy. By focusing on function and balance, you can keep moving more comfortably throughout your entire pregnancy.
